Chicken's new home

The chickens have a new home.  This weekend they moved to their half of the new goat barn, complete with nest boxes, roosts, a window and a chicken door. They will need to stay in their 14X12 room for this week to get accustomed to their new home.  Meanwhile, we will prepare a fenced are outside for them. 

After a year, we now have 20 hens and 2 roosters.  February 2013 we started with 6 roosters (which was too many) and 26 hens.  Since then, we reduced the rooster flock down to 2 after several of the welsummers took their turn flogging us and wearing out the hens.  Some of our hens were sadly lost to natural causes - 3 to the puppy Pyrenees, 1 to early disease, and 1 to unknown or possible predator, and 1 to chicken cannibalism.

Our chicken flock is a combination of Welsummers and Easter Eggers.  The welsummers lay a beautiful dark brown speckled egg. The easter eggers, which are a mixed breed chicken, lay a rainbow of pink, blue and green eggs.  This makes a very colorful egg carton!   Or extra eggs are sold at the Wild Ramp in Huntington.

The lambs are growing and still doing fine.

And poor Alita is still expecting.
