Today was a good day for mushroom hunting. It was cool with a light rain, and early enough in the season that the briars were not out of control. Armed with boots, long sleeves and anti bug and tick spray, off we went for a hike up and down the hills. We found some mushrooms, but these are not the kind we wanted. We kept looking, and found a lot of other interesting things. Could these be adult chiggers or something else? Google is not helping much on this. A young patch of Ramps This black snake was slithering out of a hole in a tree. He spent a long time quietly staring at us and was nice enough to let me take a few pictures...from a distance of course. Strange looking bumps (galls) on a tree. Spring forest greenery. And an Eastern box turtle. Maybe next time there will be mushrooms.
